How to play on your own.
The temporary loop over your outer ear frees one hand for the mallet. Then both fingers return to the listening position.
Free one hand.
Loop one cord over an index finger and place that fingertip gently at the ear opening. Rest the other loop loosely over the opposite outer ear. Let the gong hang freely near your belly.
Give it a gentle tap.
With your free hand, give the gong one light tap. Move the mallet away and set it down within reach. Keep the metal clear of your body and clothing.
Listen with both ears.
While the gong resonates, lift the resting loop off your outer ear and onto your free index finger. Gently close the second ear opening with that fingertip, and follow the sound as it fades.
A light touch is enough. The loops stay outside your ear canals; only your fingertips gently close the openings. Keep the temporary ear loop loose and stop if the sound or position feels uncomfortable.
Both cords meet at the gong’s single top attachment. Keep the disc hanging freely for a clear resonance.

What is a Pocket Gong?
Pocket Gong is a small acoustic musical instrument made by Sound Nest in Lithuania. A spiral cut allows its metal disc to resonate. The cord carries vibrations to your fingers for close, personal listening. Each set includes the gong, cord, mallet and felt pouch.
Can I play it alone or with someone else?
Both. With a partner, hold a cord loop on each index finger at your ears while they gently tap the gong. To play alone, rest one loop over the outer ear to free a hand for the mallet, then transfer it to your second index finger after tapping. Follow the illustrated listening guide.
Do I need musical experience?
No. Start with a gentle tap and explore how the resonance changes. You can use it as a personal listening instrument or as part of a mindful ritual, without learning a scale or melody.
Is it tuned to a particular frequency?
We do not claim a fixed note, 432 Hz tuning or therapeutic frequency. Pocket Gong produces a complex mix of tones, and its acoustic character can vary between pieces and batches.
Will a recording sound the same?
The cord transmits vibration directly to the listener, so a phone recording does not recreate the full experience. It is best understood by trying the instrument yourself.
Can I use it when I feel overwhelmed?
You can choose to use it as a gentle focus for a personal pause. Experiences differ, and some people may find sound too intense. Stop if it feels uncomfortable. Pocket Gong is not a treatment for anxiety, panic or any medical condition.
